TYPES OF DNA TESTING WE PROVIDE

Comprehensive DNA Testing Services

PATERNITY TESTING:

Legal Paternity Testing ($275 - duo, $425 - trio) Court-admissible paternity testing for custody disputes, child support cases, birth certificate amendments, and inheritance claims.

Includes: • Verified identity of all participants with photo ID • Witnessed specimen collection • Strict chain of custody documentation • Notarized collection process • AABB-accredited laboratory testing • Court-admissible results • Expert witness availability if needed

Personal Paternity Testing
($225 - duo, $350 - trio) For personal knowledge only - not admissible in court. Same accuracy as legal testing, but without witnessed collection and chain of custody requirements. Results for personal peace of mind.

MATERNITY TESTING ($275 - duo) Establishes biological relationship between mother and child. Required for some immigration cases and occasionally for surrogacy situations.

GRANDPARENT DNA TESTING ($425 - trio) Determines biological relationship between grandparent(s) and grandchild when alleged father is unavailable or deceased. Used in custody, inheritance, and Social Security benefit cases.

SIBLING DNA TESTING
($375 - duo) Determines whether two individuals share one or both biological parents. Used in inheritance disputes, family reunion cases, and immigration applications.

AVUNCULAR DNA TESTING (Aunt/Uncle)
($375 - duo) Tests biological relationship between aunt/uncle and niece/nephew when alleged parent is unavailable. Used for inheritance and immigration cases.

IMMIGRATION DNA TESTING
($350+) USCIS-approved DNA testing for family-based immigration applications. We follow strict AABB standards for immigration cases and can coordinate with U.S. embassies and consulates for overseas participants.

ANCESTRY/ETHNICITY TESTING
(Not offered) Note: VitalCheck specializes in relationship DNA testing (paternity, maternity, siblingship). We do not provide ancestry, ethnicity, or genetic health testing. We recommend 23andMe or AncestryDNA for those services.

LEGAL VS. PERSONAL DNA TESTING

Understanding Legal vs. Personal DNA Testing

Chain of Custody ✅ Forensic-level ❌ Not required
Photo ID Required ✅ Yes, verified ❌ No
Witnessed Collection ✅ Yes, by neutral party ❌ Can be self-collected
Laboratory ✅ AABB-accredited ✅ AABB-accredited
Accuracy ✅ 99.99%+ ✅ 99.99%+ (same)
Results Time 3-5 business days 3-5 business days
Use Cases Custody, support, inheritance, immigration Personal knowledge, peace of mind
Price (duo) $275 $225

WHEN YOU NEED LEGAL TESTING:

✅ Custody disputes or parenting time issues ✅ Child support establishment or modification ✅ Contested paternity in divorce proceedings ✅ Birth certificate amendments ✅ Inheritance or estate claims ✅ Immigration applications (family-based) ✅ Social Security survivor benefits ✅ Military benefits claims ✅ Any situation that may involve court proceedings

Rule of Thumb:
If there's any chance the DNA results will be used in legal proceedings, get legal testing with chain of custody. Personal testing results cannot be "upgraded" to legal status later.

HOW DNA TESTING WORKS

Professional DNA Collection in 4 Simple Steps

STEP 1: Schedule Collection

Contact VitalCheck by phone, email, or online form. Let us know: • Type of testing needed (paternity, sibling, grandparent, etc.) • Legal or personal testing • Number of participants • Preferred collection location(s)

We'll coordinate scheduling for all participants. We can collect all participants at once (if together) or schedule separate appointments if parties are in different locations.

STEP 2: Mobile Collection at Your Location

Our forensic-credentialed collector arrives at your law office, home, workplace, or another location with all necessary supplies:

For Legal Testing:
• Photo ID verification for each participant • Witness forms and chain of custody documentation • Sterile buccal (cheek) swab collection kits • Sealed evidence packaging • Notarization (if required)

For Personal Testing:
• Simple buccal swab collection kits • No ID verification required • Convenient, discreet service

Collection is quick, painless, and non-invasive - just a cheek swab. No blood draw required. Safe for infants and children.

STEP 3: Specimen Collection Process

Legal DNA Testing Process:

  1. Collector verifies identity of each participant with government-issued photo ID
  2. Collector photographs each participant (for chain of custody)
  3. Each participant provides buccal (cheek) swab specimen
  4. Collector seals specimens in tamper-evident packaging
  5. All participants sign chain of custody forms
  6. Collector witnesses and signs documentation
  7. Specimens sealed and labeled with unique identifiers
  8. Complete chain of custody maintained throughout process

Forensic documentation ensures your DNA evidence withstands any legal challenge.

STEP 4: Laboratory Testing & Results

Specimens sent to AABB-accredited laboratory for:

• DNA extraction from buccal cells • STR (Short Tandem Repeat) analysis • Statistical probability calculation • Results verification and quality control

Typical Results:
• Inclusion (relationship confirmed): 99.99%+ probability • Exclusion (relationship ruled out): 0% probability (100% certainty)

Turnaround Time:
• Standard: 3-5 business days after laboratory receives specimens • Expedited: 24-48 hours (additional $200 fee)

Results delivered:
• Legal testing: Official report mailed to attorney or designated party • Personal testing: Results emailed or mailed per your preference

Court-Admissible Report includes:
• Laboratory accreditation information • Chain of custody documentation • Detailed test methodology • Statistical probability calculations • Laboratory director certification • Suitable for admission as evidence in legal proceedings

DNA TESTING FAQ

Common DNA Testing Questions

  • What's the difference between legal and personal DNA testing?

Legal testing includes strict chain of custody with photo ID verification, witnessed collection, and documentation suitable for court. Personal testing has the same accuracy but cannot be used in legal proceedings. If there's any chance you'll need court-admissible results, get legal testing.

  • Can personal DNA testing be upgraded to legal testing later?

No. Personal testing results cannot be "upgraded" to legal status because chain of custody was not maintained during collection. You would need to redo the test as legal testing.

  • Is DNA testing painful?

No. DNA testing uses a simple cheek swab (buccal swab) - just rubbing a soft swab on the inside of the cheek for 30-60 seconds. No blood draw, no needles. Safe and painless for all ages including infants.

  • How accurate is DNA paternity testing?

DNA paternity testing is 99.99%+ accurate for inclusion (relationship confirmed) and 100% accurate for exclusion (relationship ruled out). It's the most definitive method of establishing biological relationships.

  • Do we need the mother's DNA for paternity testing?

No, but including the mother increases the statistical probability slightly (from 99.99% to 99.9999%+). For legal purposes, duo testing (child and alleged father) is acceptable. Trio testing (mother, child, alleged father) provides the highest statistical strength.

  • What if the alleged father refuses to test?

For legal cases, a court can order paternity testing. Refusal to comply with a court order can result in legal consequences, and courts may presume paternity if a party refuses testing. Consult your attorney about your specific situation.

  • How long do DNA test results take?

Standard processing is 3-5 business days after the laboratory receives all specimens. Expedited 24-48 hour results available for additional $200 fee.

  • Can you test if the alleged father is deceased?

If the alleged father's DNA specimen is unavailable, we can perform grandparent testing (using his parents), sibling testing (using his siblings), or avuncular testing (using his siblings). These indirect tests can establish relationships when the primary participant is unavailable.

  • Is prenatal DNA testing available?

VitalCheck does not provide prenatal paternity testing. Prenatal testing requires specialized procedures (amniocentesis or CVS) that carry medical risks. We recommend waiting until after birth for safe, non-invasive buccal swab testing.

  • Can you collect participants in different locations?

Yes. VitalCheck can collect each participant at different times and locations throughout the DFW metroplex. We maintain chain of custody for all participants and coordinate shipping to the laboratory.

  • Are your DNA results accepted in Texas courts?

Yes. VitalCheck's legal DNA testing meets Texas Family Code requirements for court-admissible DNA evidence. Our AABB-accredited laboratory results are accepted in Texas courts and throughout the United States.

  • Can DNA results be used in other states?

Yes. AABB-accredited DNA testing with proper chain of custody is accepted nationwide. If you're filing in another state, inform us and we'll ensure compliance with that jurisdiction's requirements.
